Privacy policy

Attente and attente.app are run by Dancer Digital Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16760669), whose registered office is at 2 Harsh Drive, York, YO42 2UG. We are the controller of the personal data described here.

This website sets no cookies and loads nothing from other companies: no analytics, no advertising, no trackers and no third-party fonts. Like any website, our hosting provider receives the technical details a browser sends to load a page, such as your IP address and browser type. They are used only to deliver the site and keep it secure, and are kept for no more than 30 days.

Attente is local-first. Your manuscripts, notes and story bible are stored on your own computer, not by us, and you can export them as plain text at any time.

When you use the hosted readers (Attente Plus), only the text a reading needs is sent, through our servers, to the model providers we use. It is used only to produce that reading, is not kept after the request, and is never used to train or fine-tune any model, by us or by them: we use only providers whose terms forbid training and keep nothing. If you use your own API key, your text goes straight from your computer to that provider, under your agreement with them, and never passes through us.

Error reports and usage counts the app sends never include your text, your titles or the names in your story. You can switch every reader off, for the whole app or for one project, and then nothing from that project is sent anywhere.

Payments are taken by Stripe, which processes your card or wallet details under its own privacy policy. We never see or store your card number. When you buy a licence, Attente Plus or extra readings, we keep:

• your name and email address;
• your country, for tax;
• what you bought and when, your licence key, your subscription's status and your balance of readings.

We use these to deliver your licence and subscription, to send receipts, licence keys and important notices about your account, and to meet our obligations under tax and accounting law. Our legal bases are the contract between us and those legal obligations. We'll only send you news about Attente if you choose to receive it, and you can stop at any time.

A few companies process personal data on our behalf, under contracts that require them to protect it:

• Stripe, for payments and invoices;
• Resend, which sends our emails;
• our hosting provider, which runs this site and our account and licence services;
• the model providers behind the hosted readers, for the text of each reading only, as described above.

Some of them process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, the transfer is protected by the safeguards UK law requires, such as the International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. We never sell your personal data.

We keep your account and purchase records while you have a licence or subscription, and for six years after, as UK tax law requires; then we delete them. Server logs are kept for no more than 30 days. Hosted readings are not kept at all.

Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, ask us to restrict or stop using it, and ask for it in a portable form. Write to privacy@attente.app; we'll answer within a month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk), or, if you live in the European Union, to the data protection authority where you live.

Attente isn't intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal data.

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change matters to how we use your data, we'll tell customers by email before it takes effect.
